The Disappearance of John Scott Vandeleur

“When John Scott Vandeleur absconded in 1832, newspapers around the Empire reported the story.

His debts led to the sale of the land which had been farmed by the Ralahine Commune,

The forging of bank bonds by landowner Vandeleur brought an end to the Ralahine Commune and the first attempt at socialism in Ireland.
